Most workers have a statutory right to receive 5.6 weeks' holidays per year. Some employers may allow workers more than 5.6 weeks' leave and time off during bank holidays. An employer can specify when workers take their leave. For example, a business may close during the Christmas period for several weeks the employer might ask employees to take some leave during this period or an employer might specify that all the holiday entitlement can not be taken at once.
Holiday pay is paid at the same rate as normal pay. For example, if your salary is £800 a week, you are entitled to receive £800 holiday pay per week less deductions for income tax etc.
A part-time worker is entitled to the same level of holiday pro rata. For example, A person working three days a week would be entitled to 16.8 holiday days.
To calculate holiday entitlement multiply the number of days you work per week by 5.6. This calculation is the same for part-time workers. A person working 5 day a week is entitled to 28 days holiday leave. A person working two day a week is entitled to 11.2 days holiday leave.
