ACAS Grievance

The Acas statutory Code of Practice was introduced on the 6th April 2009. The Acas grievance code was presented to parliament and implemented by order of the Secretary of State.

Acas grievance was introduced to give practical guidance to employees, employers and their representatives on how to deal with grievances in the workplace.

Non compliance of the Acas Code does not make a worker or employee liable for proceedings, although an employment tribunal can increase any awards by 25% for unreasonable failure to follow the Acas grievance code.

+ Below are the main topics covered by the code:

+ How to handle grievances in the workplace

+ Holding a meeting with the employee to discuss the grievance

+ Allowing the employee to be accompanied at the grievance meeting

+ How to decide on appropriate action regarding the grievance

+ Allowing the employee to take the grievance further if not resolved

+ Overlapping grievance and disciplinary cases

+ Collective grievances
